Former Ibrox ace Brian Laudrup has told The Daily Record that Celtic can still catch Steven Gerrard’s Rangers at the top of the table.
Laudrup, who played for Rangers in the 1990s, believes that Rangers are not guaranteed of winning the league title just yet despite having a big lead over bitter Old Firm rivals and defending Scottish champions Celtic.
Gerrard’s side are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 44 points from 16 matches, while the Hoops currently find themselves second in the standings with 31 points from 14 games.
Former Celtic star Kris Commons has said that Celtic are “out of the title race before Christmas”, as quoted in The Scottish Sun, but Laudrup does not agree.
Laudrup told The Daily Record: “So far, it has been a huge help in putting Rangers in a very strong position but I have to disagree with Kris Commons after he said that he felt the title race was all but over.
“I understand his argument given the state Celtic are in just now, but let’s see what happens in the next Old Firm game on January 2 first of all.
“In my view, history tells us we have to travel another two or three months down the line to see the full picture. No one at Ibrox can or will get ahead of themselves yet.”
Title race far from over
True, Celtic are not doing well at the moment and Rangers are flying, but it is only December now.
There is a lot of football to be played, and the Hoops, who have a strong team, have won the league titles for the past nine seasons and know how to get through tough times.
