Stewart, who played for Rangers in the 1980s, believes that another season out on loan for Gers youngster McCrorie would be beneficial for him.
The 22-year-old has been at Rangers since 2013, but the young goalkeeper has yet to establish himself in the first team.
The Scotland Under-21 international had been out on loan at Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of the South and Livingston in recent years.
Stewart told The Daily Record: “If I was still at Rangers I would be advising Robbie to have another season as first choice in the Premiership if he could.
“That would give him the regular game experience he needs. He is an excellent prospect and has done well for Scotland Under-21s as well. But he needs to be playing regularly.
“Playing for Rangers is a massive task and with Allan being there and as the model of consistency then in my eyes it would be far more beneficial for Robbie to go and play another season.”
Out on loan
Allan McGregor is the first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers at the moment, and that is not going to change next season.
With Wes Foderingham having left the Gers, McCrorie could be the second-choice custodian at Ibrox.
However, another season – or even half a campaign – out on loan at a club in the Scottish Premiership would be hugely beneficial in the 22-year-old’s progress and development as a goalkeeper if he gets to play regular first-team football there.
