Rangers have not even come close to challenging for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Ex-Rangers star Neil McCann spoke live on Sky Sports Now at 11:40am on February 9th, and shared what he believes Mark Warburton’s primary target should be for the remainder of the season, highlighting the importance of a second placed finish for his former club.

The Gers have been inconsistent to say the least so far this season, and currently sit in third position in the Scottish Premiership table, a full 27 points behind bitter rivals Celtic.

And McCann, who made 171 appearances for the Glasgow giants during a five-year spell at Ibrox, explained to Sky Sports how Warburton should be focusing all of his energy on ensuring that Rangers finish second in the league:

“Coming second should be his [Mark Warburton] first target for the season. I didn’t think they were going to challenge Celtic. I believe they should be a lot closer.”

This season is Rangers’ first back in the top flight since 2012, after spending four years in the wilderness of the lower leagues, but their fans still expected them to put up more of a fight this term than they have done.

And Warburton has his work cut-out if he is to arrest his club’s slide, and ensure that his Rangers side finish in second spot in the table.
