Pundit and former Rangers defender Craig Paterson has told BBC Sport that he felt Friday’s win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle was huge for the Gers.

Mark Warburton’s side endured a miserable September having been beaten by rivals Celtic and Aberdeen, but kicked off October in style with a 2-0 win over Partick Thistle two weeks ago.

Friday night saw Rangers return to action following the international break, and they picked up another important win as they beat Inverness 1-0 thanks to a goal from veteran striker Kenny Miller.

Manager Warburton will be delighted with Friday’s hard-fought victory, especially as his much-criticised defence again managed to keep a clean sheet.

With centre backs Danny Wilson out of action and Philippe Senderos on the bench, Warburton was forced to bring in Rob Kiernan and Clint Hill as his centre backs against Inverness, but it’s now four clean sheets in the last four games in all competitions for Rangers.

Warburton will want that to continue, especially as they take on Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup next weekend.

After the final whistle against Inverness, former Rangers defender and current pundit Craig Paterson told BBC Sport that he felt the 1-0 victory eased some of the pressure on manager Warburton.

Paterson added that another clean sheet was ‘massive’ for Rangers, and just deserved to win the game in a huge victory.

“This takes the pressure off Warburton,” said Paterson. “You can see he’s the kind of guy who just likes to get on with his job but you just don’t get that at Rangers. That’s four shut-outs in the last five games and that’s massive for Rangers. Rangers just deserved to win but Richie Foran will look at those two gilt-edged chances. It’s a big night for Rangers,” he added.
