The former Rangers assistant manager believes that Morelos struggling to score goals after the mid-season winter break saw Steven Gerrard’s side’s Scottish Premiership title challenge fade away.
The Scottish Premiership title was called earlier this season due to the global health crisis, with the Hoops winning the championship on a points-per-game basis.
When the season was initially suspended, Neil Lennon’s side were as many as 13 points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, who had a game in hand.
Weir said on The Longest Forty, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “Rangers were really close this year, winning the game before the break. But after that it didn’t work out the way anyone wanted.
“In my mind the thing that changed was Morelos stopped scoring. He went from scoring 25, 30 goals before Christmas, to one or two afterwards. That’s a big, big change in your game.
“Centre forwards at any level of football make or break your team. Odsonne Edouard scored all season for Celtic. He — and Leigh Griffiths coming in — made a difference.
“If your centre forward is not scoring then games become harder to win and if you’re not winning games, especially at Rangers, then it becomes difficult to win leagues.”

Celtic will be aiming to win their 10th successive Scottish Premiership title next season, and the Rangers players will have to be on top of their game to stop that from happening.
