Former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson has expressed his delight for his former side winning promotion.

Blackburn clinched an automatic spot to join Wigan in bouncing straight back to the Championship after relegation to League One last season.

They did so with a 1-0 away win over Doncaster with Charlie Mulgrew scoring the winning goal.

Robinson played for Rovers between 2008 and 2015, which included three seasons in the Championship.

Rovers never came close to winning promotion back to the Premier League after they were relegated from the top flight and perhaps it had to get worse before it got better.

The drop to League One has allowed the club to reset and try and re-establish a winning formula.

Plenty of this Blackburn squad are familiar with the Championship and will not be daunted by returning to the division.

Rovers should have ambition next season beyond merely survival.
