Gary Lineker looks back on decision to leave Everton.

Ex-Spurs player Gary Lineker looks on prior to the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at White Hart Lane on April 10, 2016 in London, England.

Gary Lineker moved on from Everton more than 30 years ago.

But he says a minority of fans still give him grief over his departure.

After a prolific 30 goal season in 1985/86, Lineker left to join Barcelona.

This came after winning the World Cup golden boot in Mexico, with Everton netting £2.8 million from his sale.

Lineker says he maintains it was the right decision.

Lineker made the comment after the Liverpool Echo highlighted a 10 year anniversary of an interview with Lineker about his time at Goodison Park.

The striker had three successful years with Barcelona before returning to England with Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton went on to win the title in 1986/87 without Lineker, but perhaps if they had been able to keep him, they would have been able to maintain their success.
