Liverpool are fighting Manchester City for the Premier League title but will glory slip through Jurgen Klopp’s grasp?

USA legend Tim Howard has made it clear to CNN that he is not supporting Liverpool in the Premier League title race – which is perhaps no surprise given his allegiances to Manchester United and Everton.

With just two games to go in a thrilling title race, Jurgen Klopp’s side are in a rather unique position in that they could finish the season with 97 points and still miss out on the top flight title thanks to the relentless winning machine that is Manchester City.

But if Pep Guardiola’s side slip up in fixtures against Leicester and Brighton, Liverpool could become champions of England for the first time in almost 30 years – something Howard is dreading.

“I hope Liverpool never win a title while I’m still breathing,” said the former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper, who spent 13 years in England before returning to America with Colorado Rapids.

“We have two teams in the form that they’re both in. It’ll come down to the wire. If no one has a slip up, then City wins.”

Liverpool only realistically challenged for the Premier League title twice during Howard’s long spell in English football.

A team inspired by Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard finished second behind Manchester United in 2009 before throwing away a chance at glory in heartbreaking fashion five years ago under Brendan Rodgers.
