Former Everton, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder attempts to resurrect his career.
Former Dutch international midfielder Royston Drenthe is attempting to get back into football two years after retiring.
Drenthe had a colourful career first time around, earning a move from Feyenoord to Real Madrid in 2007.
He played for three English clubs, signing on loan with Everton for the 2011/12 season from Real, scoring three league goals and providing six assists.
David Moyes did not sign him permanently before he headed to Russia, before Reading signed him in 2014.
His most recent spell was on loan with Sheffield Wednesday in 2014/15 where he scored once, befor brief stints in Turkey and the UAE.
Explaining his retirement in a 2017 interview with Marca, Drenthe said: “I wasn’t happy. I was tired, depressed, hopeless… It didn’t make me happy playing professional football, I didn’t like that world. Bad things happened to me and I was playing in the Emirates, one day I just said that’s enough, I quit.”
He intended to quit playing to build a successfulrap career, but he now appears set on a return to football by winning a contract in his native Holland.
