The former Manchester United man was not impressed with Kane’s display at Old Trafford.

Former England international defender Paul Parker has slammed the performance of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane at the weekend.

Spurs were facing Parker’s former club Manchester United, losing 1-0 at Old Trafford after a goal from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Spurs did not perform at the level expected of them with much of the post-match criticism falling on the attacking midfielders at the club, including Dele Alli.

But Parker was not impressed with Kane.

Writing for Eurosport this week the 19 times capped former United star shared his opinion on Kane’s performance – suggesting the striker was not playing as the striker Spurs needed in the clash:

“I think Tottenham were very poor against them (Manchester United).

“There was no threat up front – I don’t know where Harry Kane wanted to play, but it wasn’t as a striker – and in the final third they were poor as well as conceding a bad goal.”

Kane’s role has been a source of some debate for a while. Many have suggested that he is much more than just a goal-getting striker but, as was evident in the Euros for England this summer, when tasked with doing much more his core attributes become diluted.

Perhaps Spurs are better off ensuring that Kane remains playing as high up the pitch as possible if they are to end their current inconsistent run of form.

Hopefully Kane get back to his goalscoring best as Spurs take on Hull City this evening.
