The forward scored four goals in 15 minutes yesterday afternoon.
In 2010 Derby County snapped up former Real Madrid youngster Alberto Bueno on loan from Real Valladolid.
Considered one of the best talents in the Real Castilla before his 2009 exit, he went on to play 32 games for the Championship side and score seven goals.
But while his return may not have been prolific, most Derby fans could see he had talent. However, at just 21-years-old, perhaps he was still too young for a move abroad.
He went back to Spain that summer and ended up joining Rayo Vallecano in 2013.
He has since become a vital member of the Rayo first-team and yesterday he had perhaps the best game of his life.
Vallecano faced Levante and found themselves 1-0 down after just 13 minutes. Then, for 15 minutes in the first half, Bueno went on the rampage.
He scored in the 23rd, 32nd, 33rd and 38th minute, four goals in 15 minutes, as Vallecano went on to win the game 4-2.
The fantastic individual performance means he now has 12 goals in 24 games this season and he has been speaking about his form, insisting he has his eyes on a Spanish call-up. He is quoted by Marca as saying:
“[I’m working] to achieve my goal of playing for Spain.
“[I was] very happy with my four goals in fourteen magical minutes. I had the feeling everything I touched went in.”
Of course Bueno has a big task forcing his way into a Spanish team full of wonderful attacking talent. But he is now the top scoring Spaniard in La Liga so you never know, he might just make it into the Spanish team after all. Something Derby will no doubt take plenty of credit for.
