Celtic once had high hopes for Leo Mazis, but his career hasn’t quite gone to plan for him so far.

The Bhoys have a decent history when it comes to Australian players, as Mark Viduka, Scott McDonald and Tom Rogic have all become Parkhead favourites.

When Brendan Rodgers was in charge, Celtic brought Mazis in on trial from Blue Devils in Australia, believing that he had real promise.

Mazis failed to make a single first-team appearance for Celtic though, and was released at the beginning of the year – despite the Bhoys never actually confirming his departure.

The midfielder headed off to Italy with Triestina, but cited ‘personal reasons’ for his swift departure as his 18-month contract was ripped up.

So where is the 20-year-old now? Well, it looks like he’s heading back to Australia in search of a new club.

The World Game in Australia report that Mazis has now joined Western Sydney Australia on trial, and has been with them for over a week.

A decision hasn’t yet been made on a permanent deal, but Mazis will now hope to win a contract and get back on track having failed to make the grade at Celtic and then endured a tricky 2020.
