Celtic may have missed out on appointing Eddie Howe, but it looks like they’re close to appointing a new boss.
The protracted deal for Howe has collapsed, and BBC Sport claim that talks are being held over a deal for Yokohama F. Marinos manager Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou looks set to become Celtic’s new boss in the coming days, marking just his second managerial job in Europe; his other came with Greek side Panachaiki in 2008.
The 55-year-old isn’t all that well-known despite having a 25-year managerial career, but he does have some experience with Celtic players past and present.
Tom Rogic played for him with Australia, as did former Celtic winger Daniel Arzani. Ex-Bhoys midfielder Jackson Irvine also played for Postecoglou with Australia.
Irvine left Celtic in 2015, but his recent words on Postecoglou should be of great interest to Bhoys fans right now.
Irvine went on Open Goal and spoke glowingly about Postecoglou, branding him an ‘amazing, unbelievable’ coach and a manager he would love to see in Europe.

The midfielder, now with Hibernian, added that the style of play was ‘hectic’, predicting that he will do ‘really, really well’ in Europe.
“Ange Postecoglou was an amazing, unbelievable coach,” said Irvine. “He’s in Japan now, he’s a coach I would love to see come and manage in Europe, I think he’d do really, really well.”
“He ended up falling out, it became a bit of a mess at the end but as a coach he was top notch. The way he was asking us to play was hectic,” he added.
