Chris Sutton has stated in The Daily Record that Rangers players should be angry with themselves over the way they have let Celtic get ahead.

The former Celtic striker believes that Steven Gerrard’s players should not be happy with themselves for slipping behind in the title race.

Rangers are as many as 13 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic in second place in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment, although they have a game in hand.

The top flight of Scottish football is suspended at the moment due to the global health crisis, with Sky Sports reporting that it will be called off in the coming days.

It has been reported that Celtic will be crowned champions of Scotland, and Sutton believes that the Rangers players be angry with themselves.

Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “If anyone has a reasoned argument on how Celtic were going to collapse and squander such a healthy lead because a wobbling Ibrox team also suddenly rediscovered their form and won nine straight games, I’d love to hear it.

“I have heard plenty of unreasonable ones so far but nothing which makes any sense. I’ve been speaking to a few of my old team-mates this week and we all agreed on one thing. If I was a Rangers player right now, I’d be absolutely raging.

“Not at the SPFL clubs or the decision to end the season but the fact they allowed Celtic to run away from them. I’m not sure any season could ever be null and voided after 30 games, regardless of the monetary aspects which make it an absolute no-go in any case.”

Looking ahead

Even if the season resumes, it is very likely that Celtic will win the Scottish Premiership title.

The Bhoys have won the championship for the past eight seasons, and they will be determined to make it 10 in a row in 2020-21.

What Rangers should do now is plan for the summer transfer window and then for next season.
