John Hartson celebrates scoring for Celtic
Putting Rangers fans in their place on social media is an activity usually reserved for Chris Sutton, but one of the former Celtic striker’s old teammates has also had a go.
In the lead up to Sunday’s Old Firm encounter at Celtic Park, John Hartson predicted Rangers were in for another humiliation at the hands of the Bhoys, having lost all three of this season’s previous derbies – by an aggregate score of 8-2.
The Gers, however, defied Hartson’s expectation, with Clint Hll’s late equaliser cancelling out Stuart Armstrong’s opener to ensure that Celtic dropped points for only the second time in the league in 2016-17, and prolong the Hoops’ wait for a sixth-straight title.
The result prompted one Rangers fan to take Hartson to task over his pre-game prediction – posting on Twitter: “you’re not really the smartest of guys are you?” – to which the Welshman delivered the following strong response.
“Smart enough not to to celebrate a draw like my life depended on it!,” he replied. “How many points ?”
Rangers, who confirmed the appointment of Portuguese head coach Pedro Caixinha ahead of Sunday’s game, have another chance to get one over their bitter rivals when they face one another in next month’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
The pair met at the same stage of last season’s competition, with Rangers winning on penalties that day but losing the final 3-2 to Hibernian.
