Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has compared the atmosphere at Anfield to that at Celtic’s home ground, Celtic Park, as quoted in The Mirror.

Van Dijk was on the books of Celtic for two seasons from 2013 until 2015 before he moved to Southampton in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international central defender joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018.

The defender has spoken highly of Celtic Park, and has compared the electric atmosphere at Celtic’s home ground to that of Liverpool’s Anfield.

The Mirror quotes Van Dijk as saying about the atmosphere at Anfield for European matches: “It’s very special. I don’t think there’s anything like it.

“The games we played last year against Man City and Roma at home were unbelievable, the atmosphere. It’s just something special.”

The Dutchman added: “Celtic Park [Van Dijk’s former club] was outstanding as well, I enjoyed every bit there, so it might be a bit similar.”

World-class defender

Van Dijk is one of the best defenders on the planet and is genuinely a world-class centre-back.

The Dutchman – who earns £150,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – has been in superb form for Liverpool since his move from Southampton and has made the Reds much better in defence than they were before his arrival.

Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment and could also progress to the last-16 stage of the Champions League this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will take on Napoli at Anfield in Champions League Group C on Tuesday evening.
