Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has brought Greg Stewart to Ibrox.

Rangers have been quite busy in the summer transfer window, and among the new players manager Steven Gerrard has added to his squad at Ibrox is Greg Stewart.

The Gers have signed Stewart on a free transfer following the 29-year-old forward’s departure from Birmingham City in the Championship in England this summer.

Stewart made 16 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Kilmarnock during the first half of this past season, scoring eight goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

During the second half of the 2018-19 campaign, Stewart made 12 starts and three substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Aberdeen, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

Not many Rangers fans will be too excited with the arrival of Stewart given the attacker’s displays in the second half of the past season, but manager Gerrard will not have given him a contract with seeing something in him.

Paul Hartley managed Stewart at Dundee, and the former Celtic midfielder has revealed the advice he gave to the 29-year-old.

Scott Linton played with Stewart at Cowdenbeath, and he has backed the forward to be a success at Rangers.

Hartley told The Daily Record: “I’m delighted for Greg. He’s a Rangers fan and at 29 it’s a dream come true for him.

“I’ve known for a couple of weeks Greg was going there and I met up with him and had a chat about things. I told him he was going to play for an Old Firm team and he has to prepare himself for that.

“It’s a different world when you go to Rangers or Celtic, in terms of the professionalism and what you need to do and be aware of. His life will change and he knows that.”

Linton told The Scottish Sun about Stewart: This move will be great for him. Everyone knows he is a big Rangers fan and there were murmurs of a move to Ibrox when Mark Warburton was the manager.

“He’s been at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen since then and clearly he is highly-rated by a lot of managers, including Steven Gerrard.

“He is a good guy, really down to earth. He’s not the loudest guy in the dressing room — he can be quite reserved — but he likes to chip in and get involved.”
