Ibrox outfit Rangers have failed to match Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Murdo MacLeod has told The Scottish Sun that for Rangers to compete with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season, they need to sign six or seven quality players.
Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 50 points from 29 matches.
The Gers are eight points behind second-placed Aberdeen, while Celtic are currently at the top of the standings with 83 points from 29 games.
Rangers got promoted to the Scottish Premiership from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Former Celtic midfielder MacLeod has suggested what Rangers need to do in order to compete with their Old Firm rivals next season.
“The 33-point gap in the league tells you that the two teams aren’t close because Rangers can’t beat the other teams in the league,” MacLeod told The Scottish Sun.
“Look at Celtic right now — Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong and Kieran Tierney are all being mentioned as potential Player of the Year candidates.
“Nobody from Rangers is getting a mention, so they’ll have to bring in a similar number of players of that calibre. They’ll need to recruit six or seven Player of the Year contenders.”
Rangers have a decent squad, but the quality of players that Celtic have are stunning. The Bhoys have the best squad in the Scottish Premiership, and have some superb footballers such as Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair.
Even if the Gers make a couple of good signings in the summer transfer window, they would still find it hard to compete with Celtic for the league title next season.
What Rangers need to do is be patient and gradually build their squad to challenge the Bhoys in the long run.
