Crosas played under prospective Glasgow Rangers boss Caixinha, another ex-Celtic employee, in Mexico, and has advised the Portuguese about moving to Ibrox.

Former Celtic midfielder Marc Crosas has shared what he told Pedro Caixinha about taking the Glasgow Rangers job.

Caixinha is now the heavy favourite to succeed Mark Warburton at Ibrox, and could even be in charge for next week’s Old Firm encounter at Celtic Park.

And Crosas, who played under the Portuguese at Mexican side Santos Laguna, has told the Scottish Sun he’s spoken to his former boss – whom he describes as the best of his career – about moving to Glasgow.

“I have spoken to Pedro in the last few days after I heard about Rangers’ interest in him,” the Spanish midfielder said. “My message to him was simple: ‘You are going to the wrong side of the city!’

“But seriously, I told him that if he is offered the Rangers job then he has to take it.

“I love Celtic. I am not just a former player, I am a lifelong fan. I want them to win every title they can, but I also have a lot of respect for Pedro. He is my friend and it would be fantastic to see him at a big club like Rangers.

“I would be happy for him, even though I would want Celtic to win every time he played against them! Pedro knows that. He understands I am a Celtic supporter as we often spoke about Scottish football when we were in Mexico.

“He was always interested to find out what it was like and I know he did his coaching badges with the SFA.

“I have told him that Rangers would be a great job for him and that he would be PERFECT for them.”

CaixinhaAl Gharafa coach Pedro Caixinha

Caixinha has four months left on his lucrative contract with Qatari side Al Gharafa, who it is claimed are keen to offer the 46-year-old an extension.

Crosas, however, believes Caixinha – who was also employed by Celtic as a scout – would sacrifice the money to experience the pressure of a club like Rangers.

The Gers parted company with Warburton, along with assistant David Weir and director of football Frank McParland, in acrimonious circumstances three weeks ago.

And the trio could reunite at Nottingham Forest next season, following McParland’s appointment at the English Championship side on Friday, according to the Nottingham Post.

Rangers are thought to be targeting Southampton’s Ross Wilson as a replacement for the Liverpudlian.
