Ibrox outfit Glasgow Rangers are looking for a manager to succeed Mark Warburton.
Rangers are searching for a new manager at the moment following the departure of Mark Warburton last month. Rangers and Warburton parted company following a run of poor results in the Scottish Premiership.
According to The Scottish Sun, the Glasgow giants want to appoint Pedro Caixinha was their new boss. Caixinha is in charge of Al-Gharafa at the moment.
Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has suggested that the Gers should not appoint the Portuguese as their new manager.
Nicholas has reminded the mistake Rangers made in 2006 when they brought in Paul Le Guen. The Frenchman replaced Alex McLeish in the Ibrox hotseat, but he could not last even an entire season.
“Rangers would be taking an almighty gamble if they appoint Pedro Caixinha as manager,” Nicholas told The Daily Star. “The Ibrox board have decided to bring in a director of football.
“They are trying to get Ross Wilson in from Southampton for the role. I think if you go for that set-up then you are looking for a coach rather than a manager.
“The problem is they require someone who understands what the job is all about. The last thing Rangers need is a Paul Le Guen to walk in the door.
“Players turned on him and it is still the same mentality within the Scottish game. Don’t forget Caixinha will know very little about the game here.”
Rangers have to make sure that they make the right managerial appointment. Mark Warburton did a relatively good job at Ibrox, and the Gers have to ascertain that his successor is better than him.
The Glasgow giants are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 46 points from 27 matches.
The Gers are six points behind second-placed Aberdeen, and as many as 33 points behind Old Firm rivals and leaders Celtic.
