Celtic have strolled to the Scottish Premiership title and have generally dominated the domestic game.
Celtic’s Scott Sinclair
Former Celtic forward Craig Beattie has suggested that only one Hoops star should win the player of the year award this season: his former teammate Scott Sinclair, the Evening Times reports.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have dominated domestically this term, winning the Scottish Premiership title at a canter as well as the League Cup, while the Scottish Cup could soon follow with their semi-final with Rangers on the horizon.
Unsurprisingly therefore, there are arguably a number of candidates who should be in the running to win the country’s player of the year honour, but Beattie – who played alongside Sinclair at Swansea City – has suggested that the forward should secure the award.
“[Stuart] Armstrong has had a good season, Broony [Scott Brown] has had another good season and [Moussa] Dembele is scoring all the goals but the impact Sinclair has had and what he is bringing to the team just makes him a little bit different,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“He pins defenders and makes back lines drop into their own box, which gets Dembele and other boys closer to the box. When you sit down and analyse it, there is only one player of the year and for me it is has to be Scott.”

The 28-year-old has certainly been one of the signings of the season for the Hoops. Despite the success Moussa Dembele has enjoyed, Sinclair is the side’s current top goalscorer in the top flight with 20 goals, while only two players within the Bhoys squad have contributed more league assists.
And given that many were probably writing him off following his poor spells at Manchester City and then Aston Villa, Sinclair certainly deserves a huge amount of credit for the way he has become a talisman of the Celtic side in such a short space of time.
