Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has admitted he is not surprised to see Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes being linked with a move to Celtic this summer.
The wide-man is, according to the Sun, a transfer target for Brendan Rodgers this summer and O’Neill knows him well, after handing him his Ireland debut in March 2016.

O’Neill, himself a former Celtic manager, is now quoted having his say on the matter. The Scottish Sun reports him having this to say regarding a potential move to Celtic Park this summer:
“I wouldn’t really be surprised by Celtic’s interest because he gives you something.

“He wants to take players on, he wants to go for it and that’s encouraging.
“He has been a star man for Aberdeen for the whole season. His attitude is really top class and good luck to him.”
Hayes, who is also being targeted by Cardiff City, has had an excellent season with Aberdeen. The 29-year-old played 43 times last season, scoring 10 goals, and has been one of the star players in the Scottish Premiership this term – helping Aberdeen to a second place finish, ahead of Celtic’s main rivals Rangers.

Celtic ran away with the title this season, eventually winning the treble, and will be hoping to do something similar yet again next season.
They do not wish to stand still and Hayes’ signing is a sign Rodgers still feels they have plenty of areas where they need to improve.
