Celtic sealed a historic quadruple treble with their win against Hearts
Celtic boss Neil Lennon may have come under fire in recent months, but his predecessor has praised the current incumbent’s achievements.
Brendan Rodgers shocked fans with his decision to leave for Leicester City in February 2019 and the move strained his relations with Celtic fans, but he still keeps an eye on the Glasgow side’s progress.
A penalty shootout victory in Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final against Hearts at Hampden clinched a historic quadruple treble for Lennon’s men, and Rodgers says it’s a feat that is unlikely to be repeated.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers said: “People sometimes down here think it’s easy for Celtic and Rangers to win games, but there’s not too many teams who can go out with the pressure you have at Celtic to win every game.
“To then go and win 12 consecutive trophies? It will never be done again I’m pretty sure. It typifies the mentality of the team.
“I was so happy that they did it and obviously of course, for Neil.
“To be the first manager in Scotland to have won a treble both as a player and as a manager, puts him in a unique bracket.”
Rodgers was at the helm for Celtic’s famous 2016/17 ‘Invincibles’ season, and has steered his Leicester side to second in the English Premier League behind champions Liverpool.
Fans have called for Lennon to be dismissed following a series of disappointing results which have seen Celtic knocked out of the Betfred Cup by Ross County, take just four points from their Europa League group and fall 16 points behind Rangers in the league.
They have a chance to avenge that shock cup exit when Ross County return to Celtic Park on league duty this evening.
