Former Brighton and Hove Albion defender Adam Virgo admitted last night that Newcastle United deserved their dramatic win at the Amex.

Brighton led for most of the game before goals from Mohamed Diame and Ayoze Perez earned the three points for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Newcastle’s win had a huge slice of lucky with Diame’s goal incredibly fortuitous, but Virgo felt that overall the win went to the right team, and credited the away side’s bold approach.

Newcastle brought on match winner Ayoze Perez, as well as Daryl Murphy, who provided the assist for Diame’s goal.

Brighton called upon Solly March and Beram Kayal but it was too little too late, with the momentum already with Newcastle at this point.

Newcastle had 19 shots at goal to Brighton’s 10, with eight on target and six for the hosts, while Benitez’s side edged possession with 55 per cent.

Newcastle overtook Brighton as a result of the win, moving to the top of the Championship table, but face away games against Huddersfield and Reading next.
