The Italian made an error of judgement against Leeds United.
Aston Villa lost their first game under the management of new boss Steve Bruce yesterday as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss against Leeds United.
Chris Wood scored a late goal to kill the game but it was Kemar Roofe that got the ball rolling. He got his head on a tremendous cross from Souleymane Doukara in the second-half to give Leeds the lead with his first goal for the club.

However, Villa fans were left frustrated with the effort of goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini for his role in the conceding of the goal.
He came to claim the ball but did not look confident in his approach and got nowhere near it, leaving Roofe with an empty net to place his headed effort.

It was a poor piece of play from the Italian and after the game, appearing on Sky Sports (03/12/2016) former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie was critical of the stopper:
“I watched his positioning and he looked really hesitant. I think as a goalkeeper you have either got to come or you stay.
“If he stayed I think he could have held his ground and protected his goal. But if you’re coming you’ve got to take the lot and make sure that ball is clear.”
Since his arrival from Hellas Verona in the summer there is no doubt that the Aston Villa talent has failed to impress consistently for the club.
Fans at Villa Park will be hoping that Bruce can start getting the best out of the player in the months to come.
