Aston Villa have not had the best of starts to the Championship season.

That being said they have been making a big impact in the transfer market, with some massive eye-catching signings.

On top of that they secured the future of one of their star talents yesterday as well.

Jack Grealish signed a new deal at Villa Park yesterday. The contract will keep the midfielder at the club until 2020.

One man very pleased with the news was former Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins, who will know the midfield maestro well from his time at the club.

He told Sky Sports News HQ today (08/09/2016):

“Jack Grealish I see this morning has signed another four-year deal.

“That’s a great coup for Aston Villa because he is a young man that has an immense amount of talent. So I am delighted to see that.”

He then went on to share his belief that Villa would soon start picking up the results they needed to mount a promotion challenge:

“I think they will pick up.

“I think they have got a number of players in there that will be very good at Championship level and I think they will be one of the teams that are pushing for, if not automatic promotion, then certainly a play-off position.”

Grealish’s future being secured is no doubt a coup for Villa.

The England under-21 international was perhaps guilty of believing his own hype at times last season and spent more time in the middle pages of the newspaper than the back.

He appears to have settled down this season and if Roberto Di Matteo can get him in full flow than Villa have every chance of climbing that table, fast.
