Tim Sherwood has compared former Arsenal star, Joe Willock, to Kevin de Bruyne after his possible assist of the season for Newcastle United against Tottenham.

The Arsenal academy product supplied a stunning outside-of-the-boot assist as Eddie Howe’s Newcastle smashed Spurs 6-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Whilst the Premier League leaders dropped valuable points in the title race on Friday night.

Their north London rivals ensured that they were the ones who were going to take the headlines after another weekend of Premier League action because that was beyond shambolic from them.

And Joe Willock was a key part behind their thumping of Spurs, with Sherwood offering the highest of praise to the 23-year-old midfielder, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/23 at 2:55 pm).

“That is a Kevin de Bruyne pass,” said Sherwood. “What a pass from the outside of his right foot. But the movement is fantastic. The timing of the run is great.

“As soon as Willock gets this ball. Look at Isak’s movement, like he knows what he is going to do. The defending is bad, but he puts it on a plate for him. Once he gets hold of the ball, it’s a wonderful finish.

“But the pace of the pass and the way he has bent it into his pass. A great Newcastle goal.”

WILLOCK WAS RIGHT TO LEAVE ARSENAL

After spending a brief time on-loan at Newcastle, where Willock went on a crazy goalscoring run, he was snapped up for £25 million (Sky Sports) by the Magpies in 2021.

Whilst the Englishman could have been a part of this current crop of Arsenal players pushing for the Premier League title, it was still the right call to move.

The Hale-End star would have been a back-up player had he still been at the Emirates and he wouldn’t have developed as he has done under Howe.
