Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has hit out at claims he deliberately missed a Wolfsburg fan event.
Nicklas Bendtner has used his Instagram page to defend himself after coming under fire from the European press.
The Wolfsburg striker was the only player absent from a fan rally on Sunday, claiming to have missed the event with a sore throat.
Danish outlet BT claimed the striker was ‘finished’ at the club, with coaching staff ‘shaking their heads’ also at a lack of application in training sessions.
This prompted Bendtner to bite back, claiming that insinuations he couldn’t be bothered to attend the rally were ‘s***’, insisting he will fight for his future.
He wrote: “First: I would NEVER disappoint the fans. I am happy to drive around to anyone who would have me. Unfortunately I was sick.
“Second: I am a Wolfsburg player, and proud to be so. Its been a great season and its been amazing to be a part of.
“Anyone who wants to write s*** about me, and try to put me down, go ahead. This tiger will fight till the end.”
Bendtner has failed to earn himself a regular starting spot at Wolfsburg, and has interested Danish side FC Copenhagen.
He is however in a nice spot at the German side, and as Arsenal found out, not willing to leave before he is ready.
The 27-year-old has made just five Bundesliga starts this season, and 13 appearances from the bench, scoring once.
He has netted four times in eight Europa League games, and scored a hat-trick for Denmark against USA earlier this year.
There is a possible reunion with his former club Arsenal on the cards in pre-season, with Wolfsburg named as Emirates Cup opponents. Bendtner needs to stick around however to make sure he is included.
