Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish seems to have impressed former Arsenal star Paul Merson.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has been singing the praises of Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish in The Daily Star.

Grealish has been making the headlines in recent weeks after being given a vote of confidence by new Villa boss Tim Sherwood.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has become a key member of the Villans’ starting line-up and featured in the FA Cup semi-final tie against Liverpool at London’s Wembley Stadium earlier this month.

Merson has been impressed with the performances of Grealish this season and is pleased to see him given a chance by Paul Lambert’s successor Sherwood.

“Jack Grealish can go as far as he wants in football,” the 47-year-old wrote in The Daily Star. “I was screaming for Paul Lambert to play him when he was at Aston Villa. The boy’s got no fear.

“Tim Sherwood has given him a chance, just like he did with Harry Kane – and look where Kane is now. This lad can play, believe me. He always tries to look forward and he’s always full of confidence.”

Grealish has been superb for Villa in recent weeks and is playing with freedom and confidence.

In 13 Premier League appearances so far this season, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has created 11 chances, and has a pass accuracy of 91% and a shot accuracy of 83%.

Very mobile and creative, Grealish has not been intimated by the big-name and more experienced players in the Premier League.

Villa are still in danger of suffering relegation from the Premier League, and Grealish will have to play the way he has been playing for the last few weeks in order for them to avoid the drop to the Championship.
