Former Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas and ex-Manchester United man Gerard Pique have celebrated their win over Manchester City on the social networking site.
Barcelona took a big step to the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday evening, as they defeated Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
While Lionel Messi and Dani Alves scored the goals, the Spanish side owed their win to collective effort – and a dodgy penalty decision – and two of their vital players later took to Twitter to express their delight at the victory.
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and one-time Manchester United defender Gerard Pique will have been familiar with the City of old; but Manuel Pellegrini’s men are a different beast and it takes quite a performance to leave their home with anything other than a defeat these days.
Barcelona are not just any team, and with 68% of the ball (as you would expect) they controlled much of the game although City had their chances both to go ahead and later to equalise before the Brazilian’s sucker-punch.
There is still another 90 minutes to be played. But with Fabregas and Pique both hailing a “great win” and the ex-Gunner saying how proud he was of his teammates, it is clear how important this victory was – which in turn shows just how far City have come.
