Aberdeen loaned James Maddison from Norwich City early last season.

Aberdeen supporters were disappointed to lose James Maddison when his loan was cut short last season and his development since shows they were right to be.
In the battle of Liam Kelly versus James Maddison at the weekend when Reading took on Norwich, you don’t need a points decision to work out the winner. It was Norwich’s Maddison who stole the show.

After all, he produced a free-kick right out of the David Beckham playbook to set Norwich on their way to an impressive 2-1 win away at Jaap Stam’s struggling Royals. From 25 yards out, Maddison curled a beautiful strike directly into the postage stamp.
Though this was just the latest display of class from a 20-year-old midfielder who is going from strength to strength this season. In his last two games prior to the trip to Reading, Maddison scored the winner away at Middlesbrough and set up the only goal of the game in a 1-0 triumph over high-flying Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
And Maddison has a track record of this. He scored a stunning free-kick against Rangers during his loan spell at Aberdeen last season and has clearly turned the skill into a trademark.

Though, with his reputation skyrocketing, it appears that Aberdeen might not be seeing him back at Pittodrie any time soon.
Here is a look at how Norwich fans have taken to his recent displays…
