Ghanaian striker Abdul Majeed Waris has finally bagged a goal for Spartak Moscow.

In 2012 Swedish side BK Hacken had their highest ever finish in the top-flight of Swedish football – and the 23 goals in 29 games by the Ghanaian international Abdul Majeed Waris were pivotal in their rise to a title scrap with Elfsborg, AIK and Malmo.

This sort of form was never going to go unnoticed – and Premier League scouts soon started circling. He was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League as Norwich City reportedly readied a bid – but Chelsea were the biggest team linked with his signature, it was even reported that Chelsea were ready with a concrete bid.

However one of Europe’s leading marksmen in 2012 left English teams disappointed when he agreed terms on a move to Russian club Spartak Moscow.

Things have not exactly gone to plan for the Ghanaian in Russia. Until today he has not scored for the club … but he finally scored his first goal for Spartak earlier – just the 358 days after first signing for the Russian giants.

He bagged a goal in the 88th minute against FC Rostov this afternoon which also proved to be the winner – and you can see from the mass celebrations around him that his team-mates were all very pleased that the young lad had finally broken his duck.

Chelsea clearly didn’t miss a trick by bypassing the striker – but at least things are finally looking up for the player.

Here is his goal…
