Everton linked with Jack Wilshere, but is Aaron Ramsey the Arsenal midfielder they should really be targeting?
Everton are prepared to offer Jack Wilshere a lucrative contract this summer, according to the Mirror, as the midfielder’s negotiations with Arsenal over a new deal continue to falter.
Wilshere is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and the Toffees are allegedly prepared to pay the 26-year-old more than the £90,000-a-week the Gunners are offering to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Is Wilshere the right choice?
The same report also says that the North London club are facing a dilemma about the future of Aaron Ramsey, who will be out of contract himself in 2019.
While they would like Ramsey to stay they are prepared to cash in on the Wales international rather than face losing him for no money as well.
So although the 27-year-old would not come for free, is he still the better option for the Merseysiders than Wilshere when comparing their respective careers under Arsene Wenger?
The latter has been blighted by injuries since progressing from the academy in 2008 and spent 18 months away on loan with Bolton Wanderers and more recently Bournemouth, but has still only made 190 first team appearances for Wenger’s men during that time, scoring 14 goals.
Ramsey, meanwhile, was signed from Cardiff City in the same summer that Wilshere made the step up from the youth system and yet the Welshman has played 321 games for Arsenal and scored 55 times.
