Everton have been linked with Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

Everton’s poor start to the season – losing four of their first eight Premier League games – has piled the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman, who is now attempting to cling on to his job.
The Toffees may have splashed the cash on a host of signings over the summer, but the poor recent results mean that more spending could come in January, with players already being linked with moves to Goodison Park.
Portuguese newspaper Record reported over the weekend that Everton are interested in snapping up Sporting midfielder William Carvalho, even though the Portuguese giants consider him ‘non-transferrable’.

Whilst the midfielder is an impressive talent, Everton really don’t need another midfielder in their ranks – but one of Carvalho’s teammates would certainly fit the bill for Koeman’s one-paced Everton side.
Winger Gelson Martins has starred for Sporting this season, notching four goals and one assist in just ten games in all competitions this season, impressing with his pace and end product.
Over the summer, BBC Sport reported that Liverpool held talks with Sporting over a deal for Martins after seeing their move for Mohamed Salah stall, but when Salah did eventually sign from Roma, the Reds abandoned a deal for Martins.

Now, Everton should be looking to offer the 22-year-old a move to Merseyside anyway, as Martins fits the bill of what the Toffees need right now far better than teammate Carvalho.
With blistering pace and great dribbling ability, Martins could provide the spark that Everton so desperately need out wide, and rather than add another midfielder in Carvalho, they should be pursuing a deal for compatriot Martins instead, especially considering his huge potential.
