Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen must now kick on.

Tottenham Hotspur spent big to sign Vincent Janssen in the summer, paying AZ Alkmaar £17 million for his signature.

Up until now he has been a big disappointment, but he now has a chance to start over.

The very reason he was signed was to provide cover for Harry Kane in case of injury.

A run earlier in the season saw him disappoint, but having had further time to settle and acclimatise to life in England with his team, he has a second crack at it.

Top scorer Harry Kane has picked up an ankle injury and faces weeks out of action, The BBC report.

Janssen now needs to step up, and yesterday finally provided a sign he may be able to do so.

He netted his first goal from open play for Spurs in the 6-0 win over Millwall, to the clear delight of his teammates.

His drought had evidently been affecting his confidence, but now he can draw a line under his fresh start and look forward to kicking on.

Perspective means he must remember a goal against League One Millwall does not mean he has made it, but it should serve as a platform to forget what has gone on before.

Tottenham need him more than ever, and Janssen must grow into the role he finds himself thrust into.

Kane will not be returning any time soon, giving Janssen time to play without looking over his shoulder as he shares responsibility up front with Heung Min Son.

Tottenham invested a lot of money into him, and so far it has been a bust. It’s time to forget all of that for now, because Janssen’s season starts at this point, and he can dramatically change his fate in North London if he starts firing in the goals between now and May.
