Tottenham beat Everton to Moussa Sissoko, but is a player signed for the same price the real steal?

Everton missed out on transfer deadline day to Tottenham over the signing of Moussa Sissoko, with the Frenchman swayed by the chance to play Champions League football.

The performances of Idrissa Gueye in midfield have shown that the Toffees should not yet be overly concerned about missing out, while another player signed for the same fee as Sissoko went for is already looking like a difference maker.

Yannick Bolasie cost Everton £30 million, a steep price for the now former Crystal Palace winger, but no more overblown than Sissoko’s.

Of the duo, it is Bolasie’s impact which will be easier to measure due to his attacking nature, with the winger providing his first assist for his new club last night in a win over Sunderland.

Tottenham themselves were keen to sign a player like Bolasie, making a late approach for his ex-Palace teammate Wilfried Zaha, with The Guardian reporting their £12 million offer was rejected.

Palace dismissed their offer, having already sold one key attacker, but the move showed that they were on the lookout for a dynamic attacker to add to their squad, even with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou signed from Marseille.

Bolasie was linked with a move to Tottenham a year earlier, The Mirror reported, while The Star reported this summer that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino insisted he was not high on his list of targets.

This proved to be the case with a move to Everton materialising, but that does not escape that Spurs could have made a mistake by not prioritising Bolasie.

They could quite easily have kept Nabil Bentaleb and passed on Moussa Sissoko, and spent the money on the Palace winger instead.

Spurs fans may be happy with their acquisition of Sissoko, but Everton supporters too are likely to feel that in Bolasie – a real game changer – they have the better player at £30 million.
