With West Ham and West Brom in transition, Reading defender Liam Moore should be enticed instead by the chance to play for Celtic.
If Liam Moore is to leave Reading in the January transfer window, he won’t be short of options. The Mail reports that both West Ham and West Brom are interested in the 24-year-old centre-back while the Daily Record last week stated that Celtic had made him a priority in January.
But while a move to the Premier League would give Moore more exposure and no doubt swell his bank balance, Celtic is surely the standout option for a former England Under-21 international who is finally starting to fulfil his potential.
Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops need new defenders in January with injuries stretching their squad to its limit in the last few months. And the report claims that Celtic may even make Moore the most expensive defender in their history by paying up to £5 million.
And Celtic would not only give Moore the chance to work with Rodgers, a manager renowned for helping players reach their full potential, they would also offer him Champions League football and the chance to get a few trophies on his CV.
West Ham and West Brom, in contrast, are two sides mired in transition who could either finish the season in mid-table or spend the next few months embroiled in a bitter relegation battle.
It remains to be seen whether David Moyes can turn The Hammers around but a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Watford on Sunday means fans haven’t gotten their hopes up.
And who knows where West Brom will end up, having sacked Tony Pulis after a run of two wins in 21 games?
Moore may be tempted to seize his second chance in the Premier League after failing to make the grade with Leicester City but West Brom or West Ham does not look like the right environment right now.
