Strikers have been making all of the headlines this summer in the Premier League.
Indeed, the two biggest deals of the window so far have both involved number nines as Erling Haaland has headed to Manchester City and Darwin Nunez has joined Liverpool.
Inevitably, social media and sports news coverage has been awash with comparisons between the pair and many are already talking up a supposed race for the Golden Boot between Haaland and Nunez next season.
However, in our view, anyone who is expecting Nunez to be Haaland’s biggest rival for the Golden Boot next season is mistaken.
Now that isn’t to say that Nunez won’t score lots of goals for Liverpool, but, in our view, the man to beat is still Mohamed Salah.
Indeed, while everyone has been comparing Nunez with Haaland, Salah has just picked up his third Golden Boot award, and after his Champions League final heartbreak, he seems hungry for more.
The winger is one of the greatest attacking forces the Premier League has ever seen. He’s won three Golden Boots and he holds the record for the most goals in a single 38-game season.
Make no mistake about it, if Erling Haaland wants to be the Premier League’s top dog, he has to outperform Salah, not Nunez.
Salah has an almost unhealthy obsession with scoring goals, and if Haaland is to come in and hit the ground running, you can bet your bottom dollar that the winger will push himself to the next level and try his hardest to outperform the Norwegian in his debut season.
Nunez vs Haaland is the narrative right now, but Salah may well end up being the City star’s biggest rival.
