Arsenal, for the first time in years, are heading into the January transfer window with something to hold onto.

They are leading the title race at the moment, and there is a feeling that with the right reinforcements, the Gunners can genuinely win the league title.

Mykhaylo Mudryk is the one player Arsenal want above anyone else, but sadly, their grip on the race for his signature is slipping.

Indeed, Chelsea are more than in the race for Mudryk, and according to The Telegraph, the Blues feel as though they are going to be able to outbid Arsenal for the Ukrainian.

The Gunners may miss out on Mudryk, and while that would be an annoyance for Mikel Arteta and Edu, the Gunners may still be able to reflect on a successful January transfer window even if they don’t make a single new signing this month.

Indeed, while the Gunners could probably do with a new addition or two, it’s hard to imagine that they’ll do any better business than they already have.

We’re talking about the contract extensions for William Saliba and Bukayo Saka.

The Gunners triggered one-year extension clauses for both Saliba and Saka’s deals, and those are the two best bits of business the north London club could possibly do.

Yes, new signings are important, but keeping your most important players is the single-most vital team for any successful team, especially one with the make-up of Arsenal’s squad.

As good as Saliba and Saka are right now, the fact that they’re both only 21 years old means that keeping them at the Emirates is twice as important, and the fact that they’re both now tied down for another year is brilliant.

Whether Mudryk signs or not, it’s hard to imagine that any signing Arsenal make will be as important as these contract extensions.
