Everton have been linked with a potential move for Italian manager Walter Mazzarri if they part company with Ronald Koeman.
Everton fans would certainly have been forgiven for being disappointed with reports coming from Gianluca Di Marzio recently which suggested that the Toffees may target Walter Mazzarri if they decide to part company with Ronald Koeman.
Koeman is under pressure at the amount with Everton making a disappointing start to the season. The Toffees are within touching distance of the bottom three in the Premier League after they enjoyed an incredibly busy summer, and the Dutchman appears to need a swift turnaround to stop his critics becoming too loud for the owners to ignore.
Mazzarri did little during his year at Watford to suggest that he would be an inspired appointment at Goodison Park, so perhaps, if the Everton hierarchy are determined to make a change, the club’s next opponent could provide the answer.
Chris Hughton is arguably one of the most underrated managers in English football, having inspired both Newcastle and Brighton to promotion out of the Championship, while also doing promising jobs with both Birmingham and Norwich.
Hughton has won the Manager of the Month award in the second tier a record nine times, and helped turn the Seagulls into a team that looked destined for promotion to the top flight, rather than one that came from nowhere to surprise many, and that will surely boost their chances of remaining at English football’s top table.
The success that Hughton has enjoyed surely means that he has earned the chance to manage a club of Everton’s stature in the future, and the Toffees would be wrong therefore, not to consider approaching Brighton about him if they do decide that Koeman’s time at the club is up at any point.
