Manchester United cannot afford to let Anthony Martial sign for Tottenham.
Manchester United’s Anthony Martial looks dejected
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are planning an audacious attempt to sign Manchester United this summer.
Martial was a transfer target for Spurs two years ago before United paid a fee many considered over the odds to sign the Frenchman.
Martial has had a mixed season under Jose Mourinho but the Red Devils should not discard the attacker so quickly, especially not to a rival for a top four place.
Martial is player of real quality, who would make United regret letting him go in both the short and long term.
One player United should be open to selling if Tottenham made an approach is Marcus Rashford, who is still to prove he is not a one season wonder.
This season he has found it tough going and has scored only three Premier League goals in 20 appearances, 10 of which have been starts.
Marcus Rashford celebrates after scoring for England
Admittedly Rashford has at times had to play out of position to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic up front, but he has not looked as sharp as he did last season.
Martial has scored three goals from 14 league appearances, 10 starts, but has four assists to his name, showing he can contribute more to United than Rashford has.
The Times report that Rashford is hesitating over signing a new contract over a lack of first team chances, and this should prompt United into a re-think.
