Aberdeen’s Adam Rooney has been one of Scotland’s most prolific strikers in recent years – but could McInnes plan a reunion at Rangers?

A week after Pedro Caixinha was put out of his misery at Rangers, a diverse range of managers have been mentioned in conjunction with the vacant post at Ibrox.
There is one man, however, that appears to have emerged as the main frontrunner to replace the Portuguese in one of British football’s most high profile jobs. The Daily Record report that Derek McInnes’ sterling work over three years with Aberdeen has made him the early favourite.
And the same publication has claimed on Thursday that Rangers can land McInnes and his right hand man Tony Doherty for a compensation fee of just £800,000 thanks to a clause in the contract that the 45-year-old signed this summer after rejecting Sunderland’s advances.

If McInnes does indeed try his hand at Rangers, it is expected that his Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean won’t be far behind. The 25-year-old, who played for the Gers, will leave Pittodrie sooner rather than later with his contract running down and was the subject of a bid from the Ibrox giants in the summer, per the Daily Record.
Proven and prolific
Though McInnes should perhaps consider another of his Dons favourites to ease the transition at Rangers.

The Gers have been long-since linked with Motherwell’s Louis Moult but, in Adam Rooney, Aberdeen have a striker who has been even more prolific over a prolonged period of time. The 29-year-old scored 50 goals in the last three seasons and also has four goals in four starts in 2017/18.
McInnes would have a real challenge on his hands not only attempting to overhaul Celtic but Aberdeen too. Though signing a striker he knows and trusts, one who has proven himself in Scotland over the last few years, would be a great way to announce himself at Ibrox.
