West Ham United have been one of the most exciting teams to keep an eye on in the January transfer window.

Indeed, the Hammers have been linked to a number of new attackers, they sold a striker for more than £20m, and they’re closing in on a loan signing of an England international in the shape of Jesse Lingard.

Signing Lingard and potentially getting a new striker would be impressive. However, perhaps West Ham’s best deal this month won’t be an incoming transfer.

Indeed, the Daily Mail are reporting that the Hammers are in talks with David Moyes over a new long-term contract, and securing the future of their manager may be more important than any signing they could possibly make.

Moyes has worked miracles with West Ham this season, turning them from relegation candidates to genuine European contenders, and keeping him at the club will surely only keep the good times coming.

This is no fluke either, let’s not forget that before Moyes’ career went through a rocky patch after taking the Manchester United job, he had Everton consistently in a similar spot, and it’s taken the Toffees hiring a three-time Champions League winning manager to get back to where they were under Moyes.

The reality is that there aren’t many better managers for clubs of this sort of stature than Moyes, and if West Ham can secure his long-term future at the London Stadium they will be in good hands going forward.

Signing Lingard may end up being something of a masterstroke, but getting Moyes tied down to a long-term deal may be the most important thing the Hammers do this month.
