Southampton have been linked to Leeds’ Pontus Jansson but should focus on Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer instead.

Southampton were this week linked with making a move for Leeds defender Pontus Jansson, with The Express reporting they had sent scouts to watch him in action.
Yet the Saints should forget about a move for the Swede, with their interest likely to be met with fierce resistance from Leeds.
It is also complicated, with Jansson on loan this season, having just signed a permanent deal which goes through in the summer. There is surely no way Leeds then elect to let him walk out the door.
This is why Southampton boss Claude Puel should switch attentions to Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer, who they were linked to late last year.
The Sun reported at the time that Wimmer was a target for the Saints, and a move would potentially be met with interest by both Spurs and the player.
Wimmer is third choice centre-back at Tottenham, and at times has been relegated to fourth choice, with either Eric Dier or Cameron Carter-Vickers preferred.

This is despite the Austrian’s impressive form when called upon, especially last season when there was a genuine dilemma as to whether Jan Vertonghen should reclaim his place in the starting XI after injury.
In the year since he has slipped down the pecking order, and this makes him a player Southampton stand a chance of acquiring.
He is also proven at Premier League level, and of the two targets, Wimmer is the one who makes the most sense.
