Newcastle are expected to be busy this summer if they want to keep Rafa Benitez.
Premier League giants Chelsea have slapped a £10million price tag on attacking midfielder Marko van Ginkel, according to Football London – surely he would be perfect for Newcastle United?
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form for PSV Eindhoven, scoring 16 goals in just 32 league and cup appearances from midfield for the Eredivisie giants.
His excellent form has even seen him don the captain’s armband this season, despite being on loan from Chelsea, where he has helped PSV hold aloft the Eredivisie title with games to spare.
However, Chelsea seem happy to let him leave this summer for a bargain price of £10million – just £2million more than they signed him for from Vitesse Arnhem.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is unlikely to be given a huge transfer budget by owner Mike Ashley this summer despite his calling for assurances regarding spending money if he is to remain at St. James’ Park.
But at £10million, surely van Ginkel is a player they can afford. Newcastle currently have Kenedy on loan from Stamford Bridge, but reports have rumoured that they would have to spend a huge £20million to land the Brazilian.
For just half that price, they could sign former AC Milan and Stoke City loanee van Ginkel who has taken the Eredivisie by storm this season with his goalscoring prowess from attacking midfield.
If the Toon cannot afford Kenedy, they should instead target his Chelsea teammate van Ginkel by luring him to Tyneside for the knockdown eight-figure fee.
