Back in October 2020, Martin Keown likened Jack Grealish to Newcastle legend Paul Gascoigne after the 27-year-old shone for England in a 3-0 win over Wales.

It was the start of a fairytale campaign for the England international, as he eventually joined Manchester City in a British record £100m move from Aston Villa the following summer.

However, things haven’t exactly gone smoothly for Grealish at the Etihad Stadium, and an interesting rumour emerging today could see Newcastle land their modern day answer to Gascoigne in 2023.

What’s the story?

Well, according to 90min, the Manchester City No.10 does not expect to remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond next summer, and has already told his agent to search for potential destinations.

There is no denying that Grealish isn’t worth £100m anymore after a 2021/22 campaign in which he scored just three Premier League goals, although the Citizens will still want to recoup a large amount of that sum if he does depart.

Fortunately for Newcastle fans hoping to land Grealish, the Magpies are now one of the richest clubs on the planet, and would surely have no issues in making Manchester City an attractive offer.

Newcastle might actually sign Jack Grealish

To many, it may seem as if we’re simply putting two and two together after reading the story from 90min.

However, Eddie Howe is in the market for an attacking midfielder like Grealish, so this deal could actually happen.

Newcastle made a number of bids for James Maddison over the summer, as Howe tried to lure the Leicester No.10 away from the King Power Stadium.

Ultimately, the 44-year-old was unsuccessful, but if Grealish ends up on the market, we would expect Newcastle to be among those fighting for his signature instead of revisiting a deal for Maddison.

Keep an eye on Grealish going into 2023, as anything could happen.
