Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to strengthen their squad in the summer.
Real Madrid’s Isco
Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid star Isco over the past 12 months or so (the Sun), with Mauricio Pochettino looking to add some stardust to his already impressive group of players.
There is another La Liga star who would be better suited to Tottenham, however, and offer them more of what they actually need.
Barcelona’s Rafinha is more comfortable playing in wide attacking areas than the Spaniard, and possesses all of the attributes that Pochettino’s side need in order to progress.
The Brazilian is technically gifted, and is capable of producing something out of nothing.
And unlike Isco, he possesses blistering pace – something that Spurs need in attacking areas.
The 24-year-old has been with Barca for his entire career, bar a loan spell with Celta Vigo during the 2013/14 season, and has now fully established himself as a first-team regular at the Nou Camp.
He still has the likes of Neymar, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic to compete with, however, so has been utilised from the substitutes bench regularly.
And maybe the prospect of a regular starting berth at White Hart Lane could be enough to tempt the Brazilian into making a summer move to north London.
Rafinha
Rafinha has extensive experience of playing at the highest level, despite his tender years, and his presence amongst a Tottenham squad that possesses very few winners could prove to be invaluable.
His incredible vision and ability to find his teammates in space would also bring the very best out in Harry Kane, and could help elevate the striker’s game to even higher levels.
The 24-year-old’s contract wth the Catalans does not expire until the summer of 2020, so a substantial transfer fee will surely be required in order to prise him away from the Nou Camp.
But if Spurs want to prove their ambition, they will have to bring in players of Rafinha’s calibre, however expensive they may prove to be.
