Tim Sherwood has claimed that Newcastle should ‘forget’ about appointing Andre Villas-Boas as their next manager, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show.
The former Spurs boss also claimed that Newcastle won’t be able to attract Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers to the North East.
The hunt is on for Newcastle to appoint the manager that will take the hotseat, in what is now the richest club in the footballing land.
It’s a bit problematic for Newcastle that, the list for Steve Bruce’s replacement is still being drawn up, because the alarms are starting to get louder out on that pitch.
Given the current circumstances the Magpies find themselves in, where only Norwich are a worse team than them, Sherwood thinks Newcastle need to solely focus on a manager, nothing else.
“Forget the players they are going to bring in the future,” said Sherwood. “Forget the sporting director, for now.
“The key component is, get your heads together and get the right manager. Get the manager now to keep yourself in the Premier League.
“I think the manager coming in now, he has to know the Premier League. It gives them a massive lift, if he knows what he is up against in the bottom half of the league.
“Anyone else on that list, I couldn’t hang my hat on. Forget Villas-Boas. Forget Brendan Rodgers, you are not getting Rodgers, at the moment.”

Villas-Boas is currently out-of-work, after leaving French side Marseille earlier on in the year.
He has managed, both Chelsea and Spurs in the Premier League, and was sacked by both – ironically enough, it was Sherwood who replaced the Portuguese at White Hart Lane in 2013.
Nonetheless, that big money carrot is dangling down on St James’ Park and waiting to be spent at will.
But that can only be touched in January, when the winter transfer window opens, and by then, Newcastle could be in a whole world of trouble.
They did stop their defeats yesterday when they recorded a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, but the performance wasn’t exactly morale-boosting.
