Leeds are said to be one of five Championship clubs eyeing Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback.
Leeds United are reportedly one of five Championship clubs looking to land Newcastle United outcast Jack Colback in January, with TeamTalk reporting Bristol City, Derby County, Reading and Sunderland are also keen.
The 28-year-old midfielder was left out of Rafa Benitez’s 25-man Premier League squad at the start of the season and is surplus to requirements at St. James’ Park, with a January move more than likely.
However, Leeds should avoid a deal for a number of reasons. Firstly, the Daily Star claim the former Sunderland ace is earning a huge £35,000 a week and even if the Whites did reduce such a number, he would not be worth the wages.
Secondly, having not played for half a season, Colback will be rusty. Last season, the combative midfielder was not particularly effective anyway, in a team that were dominating match after match before going up as Champions.
With the Whites already boasting holding midfielders such as Ronaldo Vieira, Mateusz Klich, Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane, a move is simply not needed.
However, out-of-favour Newcastle midfielder Henri Saivet would be a much better signing due to his intent on attacking sides as well as his pace from the middle of the park.
Saivet has hardly featured for Newcastle since his move from Bordeaux, but Thomas Christiansen should seriously consider adding him to the Leeds side to provide the Whites with an added attacking dimension.
With Kemar Roofe preferred up front and Pablo Hernandez out on the left, Samu Saiz has no back-up and an injury to the Spaniard would all but ruin Leeds’ promotion chances.
Saivet, 27, used to play as a striker for Bordeaux before dropping into the middle and his intricate array of passing and ability to drift past opponents would give Leeds adequate competition for Saiz, but also a boost in their promotion hunt.
