Ex-Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has hinted at wanting a move back to Ibrox.

Earlier this week, Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam suggested to the Daily Record that he would fancy a return to Rangers – but Steven Gerrard should look elsewhere, even just for bringing ex-Gers players back to Ibrox.
Gerrard has already overseen Ibrox returns for goalkeeper Allan McGregor and striker Kyle Lafferty, and here are five other ex-Rangers players who should be preferred to Adam in 2019…
Liam Kelly
Goalkeeper Kelly spent 12 years in the Rangers ranks but failed to make a single first-team appearance, and was sold to Livingston this past summer after a strong loan spell there last season. This term, the 22-year-old has become one of the top shot-stoppers in Scotland is pressing for an international call-up, potentially giving Rangers some regret. With Allan McGregor now 36, Kelly could be the ideal heir in the Ibrox goal, and a move would allow Wes Foderingham to move on in search of first-team football.
Craig Halkett
Another Livingston star pushing for a Scotland call-up, centre back Halkett has starred this season, leading the Livingston defence admirably. Captain of the club at the age of just 23, Halkett spent nine years with Rangers but also failed to feature even once, and is now thriving with Livingston. Gareth McAuley is out of contract next summer and Joe Worrall will head back to Nottingham Forest, meaning a solid centre back like Halkett should be firmly on Gerrard’s radar.
Greg Taylor
Borna Barisic’s injury has exposed Rangers’ lack of a real left back to cover the Croatian, with Lee Wallace clearly having no future at Ibrox. One former Rangers youth prospect thriving at left back elsewhere is Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor, who spent six years with Rangers before heading to Kilmarnock in 2014. The 21-year-old is an exciting prospect who is maturing into a superb left back for Kilmarnock, and bringing him back to Ibrox would give Gerrard two outstanding players battling for one position.

Steven Davis
Experienced midfielder Davis is currently with Southampton, the club he moved to in 2012 after refusing to have his contract transferred to the ‘new’ Rangers. Now 33, Davis is struggling for first-team football in the Premier League, but has shown on international duty with Northern Ireland that he still has the quality on the ball that Rangers are lacking in midfield. As another veteran who left in 2012, like McGregor and Lafferty, Davis may not be hugely exciting, but does tick the boxes for Gerrard.
Lewis Macleod
Brentford ace Macleod left Rangers in January 2015 after a fine spell at Ibrox, in which he hit 16 goals in 74 outings. The playmaker left Rangers after 11 years with the club but has struggled with injuries in England, only really getting himself back to 100% this term. That could be perfect for Rangers, as he is out of contract at the end of the season and could sign a pre-contract deal in January, giving Rangers and Gerrard another talented midfielder to work with for the coming years.
